Moray salt mines of Maras cusco

SALT MINES OF MARAS

Situated at 48 kilometers from Cusco city, are reserves of water evaporation which come from a fountain to then deposit itself in more than 3 000 reserves until the water evaporates and it reaches a thickness of 10 cm.
Their deposits of different shapes and sizes make a great view for the tourist.

MORAY

Taking advantage of the topographic of the hills, valleys and plains with negative height the Incas built a center of agricultural experimentation and study on different representative levels of up to 20 micro-climates, gradually going down in temperature to obtain new and improved products, calculating the cycle and the sowing opportunity and harvest, the quantity and quality of production, and the watering control.

Two circular structures of six rings known as Intihuatana Muyu. Ñustahispana Muyu made up of two concentric platforms, which are fed by to reservoirs that contain a considerable amount of water of which flow, quantity and speed are controlled to water the different levels of the platforms.

CHINCHEROS

Visit to the market, where we will be able to directly see native knitters making their art and also the different making of ceramics, and Inca jewelry.

  • Departure time: 9:00 am.

What will we do?

– We will first visit Moray to see the circular crop fields of experimental agriculture.
– We will then go through the village of Maras, where we will get to the salt mines, where we’ll be able to see more than 3 000 salt mines.
– Last of all, we will visit the indian market of Chincheros and return to Cusco at around 15:30 pm.
